Going Back

I’m heading to my 10th (!) college reunion... It promises to be a wonderful (if blazingly hot) weekend of catching up with friends and reminiscing about our undergraduate days.  I love that in so many ways the campus still feels like home.

Wishing you a great weekend!

Snaps: Memorial Day Weekend in North Carolina

My husband and I spent this past Memorial Day weekend in North Carolina, celebrating the marriage of one of his cousins.  Some highlights: the stunning Sarah P Duke Gardens & the lovely Duke University campus, food! (Foster’s, North Carolina BBQ, Pizzeria Toro), and of course, the absolutely beautiful wedding at Shady Wagon Farm.  Below are a few iPhone photos of our weekend away.  Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

First Peonies of the Season

This past weekend I went home for Mother’s Day weekend and discovered my parents’ peony bush.  The peonies weren’t open yet, but I can imagine how stunning the flowers will look once they are in full bloom.  Seeing the peony buds reminded me that I absolutely did not want to miss out on peony season this year (unlike the past two years), so I snapped up a few post-Mother’s Day stems from a nearby bodega.

PS: I discovered that the “chin chin cherie” flowers from this previous post are called Star of Bethlehem.

Traveled: The Edward Youde Aviary in Hong Kong

One of my favorite moments during our stay in Hong Kong was our walk through the Edward Youde Aviary.  It felt like an unexpected treat to see these beautiful birds flying about in the Aviary just steps from the hustle and bustle of the Central streets.  I especially love the first vertical image of the parrots on the feeder.  I feel a cropped version of this photo (cut out the fruit) could be transformed into a stunning print.

Wishing you a happy (Mother's Day) weekend!

A New Toy

My husband took this picture of one of our cats (Riley) using our brand new Canon EF 55 mm f/1.8 lens.  Right now he has the lens for one his work projects, but I can’t wait to get my hands on it to play around with the lens!  I’m already thinking of all the things I’d like to photograph with the 50 mm...

A Cortado a Day...

I wish that a certain coffee shop was just a tad bit closer to work so I could feed my current cortado fix.  My work life is gearing up to be especially intense over these next few months (and throw in a wedding and my 10th college reunion into the mix!), and a more frequent cortado would be a nice pick-me-up.  Hopefully the blog won’t fall completely silent during this time...
